The short answer: you cannot process the AI out of a track. No EQ curve, no “humanizer” plugin and no master will turn a generated performance into a real one, because the giveaway is not a frequency — it is the absence of a musician. What works is replacing the element that exposes the track most with a live performance, recorded by a real player inside your session. To do that, you need the multitrack. Always. We mix and master for a living, and since 2025 AI-generated multitracks have been arriving in our order queue every week. This is what we have learned from actually working on them — what gives them away, what the platforms now do about it, what does not fix it, and the one thing that reliably does.
What gives an AI track away
Listeners rarely say “this is AI”. They say “something is off” and skip. When we solo the stems of a generated track, the “something” is almost always a combination of these:
- Timing with no intention. Every hit lands exactly where the grid says it should. A real drummer leans on the beat going into a chorus and pulls back in a verse; a real bassist sits a few milliseconds behind the kick. Generated parts do not lean anywhere, and the ear reads that flatness as boredom long before the brain names it.
- Cloned phrases. The second chorus is the first chorus, bit for bit. Same fill, same breath, same ad-lib in the same place. Human players cannot repeat themselves that perfectly, and nobody who has heard live music expects them to.
- Smeared transients and washed-out cymbals. The top end of generated audio tends to blur — hi-hats turn into noise, consonants lose their edges, and everything above 10 kHz sounds like it is behind frosted glass. It is the single most recognisable spectral artifact, and it survives mastering untouched.
- Dynamics without a story. The level moves, but it does not build. A generated song is often equally intense in verse two and verse one, so the drop stops dropping. Arrangement-scale dynamics are a decision, and there was nobody there to make it.
- A stereo field with width but no placement. Things are wide, yet nothing is anywhere. A real production puts the shaker slightly right because the hi-hat is slightly left; generated stereo is more like a texture than a room.
- Vocal artifacts. Warbling formants on held notes, sibilants that gargle, doubles that are neither one voice nor two. When the voice is the main giveaway, the fix is different — more on that honestly below.

The platforms are already listening
This stopped being a cosmetic problem in 2025. Deezer now runs a detector on every delivery, labels fully AI-generated tracks for listeners, and excludes them from algorithmic and editorial recommendations — by early 2026 it was flagging tens of thousands of tracks a day, out of a daily intake where roughly a third of new music is fully generated. Spotify adopted an industry disclosure standard that surfaces AI involvement in song credits, and profiles that appear to be primarily AI personas are not eligible for its verification badge.
Note the wording that matters: fully AI-generated. The systems and the policies are aimed at tracks where no human performed anything. A record with a real player on it is a different object — musically and, increasingly, administratively. That distinction is the whole strategy of this article.
What does not fix it
A louder master
Mastering is finishing. It will make a generated track loud, compliant and tonally balanced — and every artifact in the list above will still be there, now easier to hear. “Humanizer” plugins
Randomising the timing of a part that was never played does not create intention — it creates sloppiness. The ear does not confuse the two. Micro-timing reads as human when it correlates with the music: ahead here because the phrase pushes, behind there because the phrase relaxes. Random offsets correlate with nothing.
Splitting the stereo file and remixing it
Stem-separation software cannot recover what was never separate. Run a generated stereo file through a splitter and you get the same smeared performances, now with separation artifacts on top. Mixing those stems is polishing the problem. This is why we ask for the generator’s own multitrack every single time — it is the only version of the song where the parts are actually parts. Re-generating until it sounds better
Another roll of the dice produces a different set of the same artifacts. Iteration inside the generator improves the song — the writing, the sound palette — and that is worth doing. It does not change the nature of the performances, because there still are none.
What fixes it: one real performance
Here is the working observation from our sessions: listeners anchor on the most human element in a record. When one instrument breathes — pushes into the chorus, softens under the verse, varies its tone the way hands on strings or keys actually do — the whole production reads as performed, and the remaining programmed parts read as production choices, the same way drum machines and synths do on countless fully human records. Nobody calls an 808 “AI slop”. The slop impression comes from a record where nothing was played; remove that condition once, convincingly, and the frame flips.
Which instrument? The one carrying the song’s identity — usually the lead or the main hook: the guitar line everyone hums, the piano the verse hangs on, the topline synth. That is also where the artifacts hurt most, because it is where attention lives. Replacing a buried pad changes little; replacing the hook changes how the record feels in the first ten seconds.

Step by step: from generator to release
- Export the multitrack. Always. Non-negotiable. A stereo file cannot be un-baked, and split stems are not stems. Suno exports up to twelve time-aligned WAV stems on its paid plans — open your song, choose the stems download, and keep every file it gives you, even the ones you think you will not need. Other generators have equivalent exports. If your tool truly cannot export stems, re-create the song in one that can before spending money on anything else.
- Find the giveaway element. Solo the stems and ask: which part would embarrass a musician? If you cannot tell, send the track to us — a free track review from an engineer will name it, at no cost and with no order attached.
- Re-play that element live. A session player who fits the genre performs the part inside your session — same key, same structure, real hands. This is the step that cannot be faked and the one worth paying for.
- Repair around it. With a real element in place, the worst neighbouring artifacts — a cloned fill, a smeared cymbal — can be edited, replaced from samples, or masked by arrangement. This is normal music editing, not magic.
- Mix and master it like any record. Balance, depth, automation, a proper master. At this point the track is a hybrid production and gets treated like one — the same chain every human-made record goes through. If the session is ready, prepare it like this and it goes straight into the queue.

The honest limits
If the vocal is the giveaway, an instrument will not save it. A warbling AI voice on top of a beautifully re-played guitar is still a warbling AI voice. Re-recording a vocal is a different, bigger job — and we will tell you that in the free review rather than take $200 for a fix that will not land.
We do not promise detector immunity. Detection systems analyse the full recording and they keep evolving; anyone guaranteeing a “pass” is selling you something. What we can say plainly: a track with a live performance on it is no longer a fully AI-generated recording — which is the specific category the labels and filters target — and, more importantly, it stops sounding like one to the people who decide whether to play it twice.
